Romans Chapter 5 The Expectation of Justification 5:1 Therefore, since we have been declared > The motion has been laid upon the table, the debate over the issue has ended, it time to cast your vote as to what you believe. Is it Christ or yourself that you will surrender to? Will you live in the righteousness of Christ, or stand on your own self-righteous ideology to determine your eternity? The highest court has ruled and its judgment stands. righteous by faith, > Those who intend to live thru Christ are secured in eternity, as they are called Holy from the duty of Christ salvation in the resurrection. The animosity that exist between God and man, that had brought us to a point of hostility, has been resolved. So that God is able rise us up, rather than to have to put us down, which was our prior state. Man would not have won if a continuing state of war had existed between us, but only God could resolve the issue. Man was already beyond remedy themselves. we have peace with God > The war between good and evil has been brought to an end, a resolution has been found, and Gods mercy has won. We are the ones who received that which we did not deserve, but God is the greatest victor in this, because he was able to demonstrate his unconditional love, in a way that was previously unknown to mankind, his holiness reigned supreme. In that, without any personal benefit to his already righteous attributes, his love was understood by those who were unable to even perceive his existence. God was able to reach and receive our adoration, which before he had to dismiss, due to sin preventing our union with him. It was a joy for God to do it for us and I can almost hear him say, "They get it, finally, they get it! Its not about who you are, its about my love for you, that saved you". through our Lord Jesus Christ, > Which he demonstrated in the life and suffering of Christ, that we could learn not to live for the temporal things of the flesh, but the eternal love of God. Nothing more important can be gleaned from this though, than to recognize that holiness, conquered evil. All of creation was a witness to this, including those in the spiritual realm. 5:2 through whom we have also obtained access > And in that, the door was opened to us so the we could come in before the Father and have adoration for him. God also was in return, able to love us and have fellowship with us, not just for our upcoming eternal life, but for our present relationship also. That which had blocked us out, is no longer a barrier between us and God, the obstacle had been removed by God, that was put there in error by man. It was put there by man, but man was not able to remove it, God had to do it for us, at great cost to himself. by faith > And that we received this access to God, due to having an expectation of trust in him, to be able to live thru us and save us. We trust that God is able to be God for us, we stop alienating ourselves thru our desire for sin, by trusting him to be God, and he does just that for us, as a product of faith in him. into this grace > Which this faith came to us also as a gift of his mercy, which we did not deserve, but he gave grace to us, so that we could be aware of his willingness to save us. We had no knowledge of God or his holiness, due to our fallen nature in sin. We were like a train racing for towards gouge with no bridge to carry us across it. Our death was sure, without the chance of any survivors, but then God laid himself down to prevent our destruction, and that is his grace for us. in which we stand, > God made it possible in himself, that he would be our fortitude that sustains us thru his son and keeps us safe from the power of darkness. God himself is become our fortress and strength, a state and position that cannot be overcome by satan or his demons. Neither life nor death is able to interfere with what God is doing for those who put their faith and trust in him. We will not have to cower behind darkness as before, but be out in the presence of light and fear nothing that exist, in darkness or light. We will be upright in our state with God, so far as our position with him is concerned, but also, upright in life, able to walk according to what is Holy and not fail due to sins grasp of our bodies. Where we lived in a state of being handicapped, we are now in a state of recovery with God. and we rejoice > So in this we celebrate Christ victory, and our deliverance that set us free from our eternal judgement, and our present bondage to sin. The shackles that held us as prisoners of sin, have been dashed from our feet and the way we walk is no longer hindered to a life in sin. Our joy and laughter is not due to the single pleasures of sin that fade away to nothing. But we celebrate that God came to man an took away the illness that was incurable and terminal to man. We celebrate God, we exult him, because of who he is and what he is. To have our sinfulness dealt with is an awesome act for us by God, but to be able to know God, is by far the greatness of our joy in him. At some all salvation will become past tense, and our presence and joy, will be God period. in the hope > So now we live in anticipation of that which we will one day see with our own eyes. We long for this sinfulness to be taken from us and to live fully to God without hesitation, that which our bodies employ against us now. Causing us to fear even death itself, even though we are convinced that life to the full waits for us in presence of God on the other side. Our bodies wanting nothing to do with Gods glory, lure us into staying here with them, but in the end, God will have for himself, even though he will have to pluck us from life itself, into his eternity. of Gods glory. > That being, it is Gods magnificence which will be seen visibly by us and we will be in such awe of him, we will wonder how we could not of been aware of it before in all of its brilliance. How could such brightness of glory, missed our perception, how narrow was vision when we were to have gazed up and not seen it, what were we thinking, when it all comes down to God, and God alone, we will finally understand. 5:3 Not only this, but we also rejoice > So now we celebrate and exult God in our lives in the fact that the connection has been made, the things that once would drain us and leave us dry. Are now reasons to celebrate that Gods glory will be revealed. It may sound strange at first, but we know something the world doesnt. It make take many shapes in our lives, as to how we respond to them, but they are all worthy of our excitement to be part of Gods past, present and future, in that, he came for us in every form or state we are in. in sufferings, > Even if his glory is made known in us by coming about through some form of affliction. Which we do not celebrate the affliction, but that thru it, Christ suffering will be made visible and thru this, his witness will be made visible to others. knowing that suffering > So how does that come about, how does affliction make Christ visible. Doesnt it make people think God should take away our affliction so everything is nice and sweet and make my life heaven on earth. But that is human thought, injecting itself into spiritual occupancy. Life in a fallen state, remains a fallen state. There is no utopia in the flesh, except where you inject spiritual thought into human occupancy. Then the flesh learns to take a back seat to Gods spiritual drive, it is foreign to the flesh, but it is what is our future. But how do we get the flesh to take that back seat so that God Spirit is in control, experience. produces endurance, > Most people realize that life has a lot of struggles, bumpy rides and interruptions at almost every level. Christ is revealed in that you are changed in the power of his influence as an exercise of facing these struggles. You become like am athlete, able to sustain yourself in the long of an effort and not give out. This develops your patience, and that people can see in you, as Christ in you. Then you are made more at peace with the uncontrollable things in your life. Because you know that Christ is working thru you in the affliction, and that will strengthen you as does it and athlete in training, for greater triumphs in life. 5:4 and endurance, character, and character, hope. > And out of that multitudes of bricks or experiences, God forms the building, which is your place in the body of Christ. Which is our destiny in Gods sovereign plan that we rejoice and have our anticipation established inside of us for this part. Life due to sin, is not the garden of Eden, rather it is a wilderness of struggle, that once born into, must be endured to its end. Which with Christ, drives us on to that final state with him, waiting for that final day, to be in his visual presence forever. 5:5 And hope does not disappoint, > So what you have is not a fantasy or just some delusion to make you feel good on earth. God is not into psychology games, he does not want us confused, but wide awake and alert, which will invigorate you, rather than dishearten you. God does not want you to be less than that which he set you up to be in the body of Christ. He wants you to fulfill everything that you are capable of, and more thru him. because the love of God > This is due to God having love for us and desiring to fellowship in us, it did come out of man up to God, but from him, down to man. Because God knows that the true meaning of fellowship, means to contribute too, that is exactly what he is doing. has been poured out > This love then he spread out amongst us, not holding back his love, but letting it rain down on us beyond our own ability to consume it. God is coming upon us as a deluge of resource, filling us with ample reserves. Drenching us with what he had to restrain to himself prior to Christ redemption, but now to those that trust him, it is being given in abundance. in our hearts > This he mixed into our inner Spirit, making us alive in him at the very core of our existence. Making us one with him as a deposit of what would come after our resurrection. This is not something that takes the form of an external gift, as one puts on something to demonstrate God in their life and then takes it back off later. It is an internal, ever present life of God inside of you, and unless it is allowed by its possessor to pour back out of their life and into others, it is dormant and of no effect for you or others. It is a living Spirit whose source must flow to gain its power, a river contains power because it flows, but a lake with no outlet, becomes stagnant and powerless and inert in its effectiveness, its effect is neutralized. through the Holy Spirit > This came to us by way of his Holy Spirit, which comes down upon every man and woman who professes Jesus as Lord and Christ. It is an infusion of spiritual life by God himself, who weaves himself into the very fiber of who we are, maintaining his presence in out life forever. God makes us his place of residence and a temple of worship for him. who was given to us. > The Holy Spirit then works in us as that infusion of Gods love, pervading us as we yield our will to his, even to the point of saturation, and this as a gift due to your profession of faith. God did not require anything in return from you as to why he gave you his own Spirit to dwell in you, it came to you as a gift of your salvation and trust in him. 5:6 For while we were still helpless, > There was at that point a people who were suffering from spiritual malnutrition, they were starving to death and they were all going to die. Even if God gave them spiritual food to eat, they didnt have the strength in them to lift the food to their mouths to consume it. These people literally needed to be hand fed the power of God, or they would have all of surely died. at the right time > So God decided that it was now or never, in fact just to get them stabilized he would have to do an intravenous blood transfusion into them, or turn away and let them all perish. Only he had the blood that was sufficient in nutrients enough to save them, so he prepared himself a body of flesh to come to earth and do what it would take to save them. Christ died > So then he descended to earth in the form of a man, Jesus. He lived a perfect life for us show us how to grow food and reap a harvest suitable to flourish on. Then he suffered for us on the cross where he gave us all his blood, which fed and healed us, till it was all poured out of him and he died. God was able to save us, but at the great expense of his own sons life. for the ungodly. > This he did for those who were morally sick, even to the point of death. Because the wrath of God was still extremely angry at this time and wanting justice to be done concerning mans sin. God allowed in this time period, for his son to come and settle things on earth. So just in knick of time, Christ showed up to appease Gods wrath and heal us of our condition with a medicine that would send our sin into remission. 5:7 (For rarely will anyone die > No, its not very likely that someone is going give up their life for some guy down the street. We have reflexes of self-preservation as part of who we are, so when the danger alarm sounds, we tend to run for cover. Not rush to the aid of others to sacrifice ourselves, in the face of sure death. for a righteous person, > It is not out of the question though, if they are highly respected for their integrity and moral attributes, they play by the rules and everyone honors them in that respect. It is possible that someone is going to knowingly end it all to save them, that would be unusual to see, might happen, but not likely. though for a good person > Then also there is the times, that some people have highly invested their life into others, and made themselves an intricate part of who those other people are. So that those others have been the recipient of someones true gentle nature and have received kindness at their hand. For them, their love for them could override there fears, so that they would care more for that good person, then they do for themselves. That same nature that caused the first person to give of themselves so willingly, could actually replicate itself, in the lives of others in an even higher form. perhaps > It is not inconceivable then, that good people do good things, for other good people, even in increasing measure. There is no argument there, people who are highly esteemed in public for their good deeds in life, gather favor to themselves among the people, and therefore loyalty also. someone might > This then is always a cause for someone to show themselves as a loyal demonstration of their affection for the same, as they have found identity in them also. Love for another, from whatever the source, has a very powerful effervescent stimulation on the human senses. possibly > So that if the in the midst of peril, they are lucky enough to have this person around at the right time, it is not out of the question that he would intervene at great cost to themselves, for them. this is something that we could all relate to and find honor in. dare to die.) > This happens when someone sacrifices themselves for a cause of nobility in the eyes of their peers. They were not paid to protect them and had nothing to gain of it. But due to their deep respect for such a one, in a time of peril, they gave it all and made the ultimate sacrifice for them, their life. It is an act of the noble, being noble, too the noble. 5:8 But God demonstrates his own love for us, > God made it clear in doing what he did, that our perception of love and goodness, would be shattered, as he established a new way of setting the standards by which we are able to view humanities actions. He broke the mold for what was regular nobility and raised the standard of life and love, to a inhuman level. God makes a display of love to us, that seems in itself to be self defeating in human thinking, because it does not rely on practical human thinking. It has its basis in the realm of the eternal, but man lives and dies in the physical, so it opposes all that his senses respond to. It was an irrational act for a man to do what God did, but for God, it was not only rational, but natural. in that while > Because what happened was that, the state that we were in, when he rescued us was such a hopeless state of depravity, that was at such eternal odds with his Holy character. In that, there was a such stench of us in his nostrils that it made him want to just bury over us in the grave and be done with it. Because we were not a lovely people that made us look as adorable little children. We were more like a bitter, hateful, senile old man, who had brutalized everyone their whole life, merciless, corrupt and unrepentant in every way (kind of like that mean banker, in "Its a Wonderful Life"). That is how he viewed us, nothing like we would view ourselves, just the opposite in fact. we were still sinners, > Because at that time, we were his enemies, he was not rushing into save a lifelong friend in peril. We were not anything like the kind of people that he wanted anything to do with. The creation that he loved to make in the beginning, which came out of his own glory, had become such an evil embracing pit of wickedness, that he literally despised us. There was nothing lovely about us or desirable, God was acting out of a base that had it source in a promise to love and care for the offspring of Abraham, and the desire to save the original design of his glorious creation of mankind. It was to save the glory of himself that he acted, not to save the human race as though he saw worth in us, he did not, out of love for his creation, yes, but not due to our dignity did he act. Christ died for us. > And we being in that condition, he made the ultimate sacrifice for us, and gave up his life to save us. Because his act of love for us was greater then his willingness to turn his back on us. God showed why he is God and to what degree his glory is, in all its majesty. That he not only is God by nature, but by rightness, he is worthy of that which he is. It is not only in name only that he is God, but in character and attributes, he is God also. His position as God is not honorary, it is by nature, who he is. 5:9 Much more then, because > The legal state that we were in with God, that had us in big trouble with him, due to our sinful nature, has been resolved in both our favors. His glorious state has been upheld, as was his nature to be so, and we have had our conviction remanded, or set aside for life as wards of Christ, instead of death. we have now been > A new assessment has been made of us, using a entirely new method of evaluation. Where before we stood or fell on our own merit, now the cause of our worth to God is being calculated on a cost basis the is not based on us at all. But rather on what it cost God to redeem us, which is then an associated value due to external circumstances, not an intrinsic value which would be inherent in us. declared righteous > So now that God has lifted his order of death, and he has written an letter of pardon to us who believe in him and has made his righteous attributes to be credited to us. A proclamation has been issued by him, establishing us as a people who are judged Holy on the external evidence of what Christ has done. So that our goodness is being determined as, innocence by association with Christ. by his blood, > Which he bought at the cost of shedding Christs own blood and infusing us with its life. So where before we had no worth in us, know we are worth the cost of Christs sacrifice itself. So the worthless to God, has now become priceless. In that, we are now equal to that which is in his own son Jesus, that purchased us. So by way of Christ, you and I are of great value to God, so think in those terms of yourself also, he wants you too. You are now equal to the blood of Christ to God, by which price he purchased you, your value to him has been re-priced, which makes you priceless to him. we will be saved > We then will be spared from his death penalty, and have our sentence commuted to eternal life in Christ body. We will come under the protective custody of Christ and spend eternity as wards of Christ. It is an eternal confinement of freedom in Christ, where Christ was granted custody of us by the Father. That custody is our eternal life and is what is sparing us from eternal death without Christ. Where all those are judged separately, each on his own merit, and then condemned to eternal separation from the Father, and thrown into the lake of fire, where one exist in a hopeless state of rescue from it. through him > Which our salvation came to us by way of Jesus shed blood on the cross and his resurrection to life from the grave. All of what we will avoid in Gods judgement, is a result of what Jesus did apart from ourselves, so that we could thru his actions be spared from what God was going to do to mankind. from Gods wrath. > As Jesus led us out of death row, and away from Gods coming judgement of the unbelieving world. Jesus is separating us out from among them and including us in his eternal kingdom, now on earth. The process of Jesus taking custody of us, has already begun, because the issue of our being sinful has already been dealt with, and the consequences of that, became effective immediately to our benefit. 5:10 For if while we were enemies > If while we were at odds with him and he was warring against our flesh and decreed the overall destruction of the world. We were in the midst of hostilities with God, we were reconciled to God > He chose to intercede on behalf of some, so that he could be their defense, thereby resolving the conflict and reunite man to himself. A peace treaty was arranged by God, to prevent him having to destroy us, in it, it provided for a mutual cessation of hostel actions on both side of the warring parities. This is a peace that is being sought and enforced by God, without mans consent, as to the negotiated rules of the end of hostilities. Man was in no place to hold negotiations with God, due to his eminent demise. So God in his grace and mercy, argued in defense of man, too himself, and found a resolution that was acceptable to him and would save some of mankind from total destruction. through the death of his son, > And this he did during this state of war, where his son came and fought for the side of the enemy, where they took his life, thinking to destroy him and win the battle for evil. But God intended to save some thru this, by leading them back to him thru his righteousness. Because when they realized that he gave up his own sons life to reach them with his message of love for them. when they were not even perceiving the danger they were in, they turn to him in awe of what a wonder go he is to do that for us. And in that we will be saved, in that we turned our hearts toward Jesus and away from our own selves. how much more, > So now out of that, the doors are wide open and God is making ready all his provisions that he wanted to give us. God is celebrating with us, as his own glory was glorified in the view of all creation. Man received salvation, God received the glory of himself to be made visible to those who living in denial of him. Everything is being renewed and set in right accord, so that man is being enabled by Gods glory and power, that before was unavailable to him. since we have been reconciled, > And now having been reunited to the Father, the wall that kept us from being intimately involved in his life has been torn down by him. The effects of that are now being implanted into our lives as we speak. God has certified us as having been accepted by him and that certification allows us participation in the things of Gods glory. These are the aftereffects of what God did, not according to us are we being helped by God, but we are being included into Gods present and future events. will we be saved by his life? > So wanting to be with us in all things, he is passing out gifts and restoring our wrecked lives to the fullness that he intended with our creation. As he did not just save us from our eternal destruction, but also saved us from having to live as slaves to our own sinful habits. The consequence of life in Christ is immediate, just as were the consequences of sin were immediate. Jesus life, is life altering in us, the promise of God is alive and living thru us as proof of himself. The abundance of God, is abundantly clear, to those who have received reconciliation from God to himself. 5:11 Not only this, but we also rejoice in God > We also celebrate and exult that which is providing such power thru us, because he has given us something to shout about. That it is God himself, after all, where righteousness comes from and is that which is his intent, to make known to us and the wicked. We are ultimately glad that God is God, and that he has revealed himself to us so that we can know the God of our creation. Our decision to be on Gods side, is a pleasing decision to us, our hearts recognize that we are the most fortunate. For us to know the God who provided our salvation is not a fabrication in our minds, and he dont mind the least little bit, that we boast about him. through our Lord Jesus Christ, > All of this which he did, that is, the working out of our salvation, is in the life, death and resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ. Everything God did to redeem us, came about thru the efforts of his son. From creation to salvation, we owe it all to the son of God, whom the Father has proclaimed Lord over all creation. through whom > And having done this thru Jesus, who made an atonement for our sins, we focus our hearts of affection towards him. With gratitude we say his name allowed, not only in among the congregation of God, but before the world we claim him Lord of all. And if they dare object to it, we will shout it even louder, we will not be silenced by the enemies of the God, because it is our God who controls the whole of creation, they are wrong to object, and we will say so and it is they who will go away ashamed, not he beloved of God. we have now received > God gave to us thru Jesus, what we were not able to do for ourselves, as we were already deceased from his Fathers spiritual life and presence. We no longer existed in the realm of Gods existence, that ended in the garden. But now God has established a new existence for us similar to his original plan for us, but with a variation of how we exist in that new state. He has given us conditional access to him and his unconditional love. The access comes thru faith in Jesus his son, that presence then, in and of itself with the Father, is unconditional love, it is his presence that we have received that is our life. this reconciliation. > Jesus was able to restore us to his fellowship and reunite us with himself and the Father, thru the Holy Spirit, which made us alive, those that is, who believed in him. The process itself is complete and there is no other work that remains to be done in order for us to have spiritual life with God. It is now your choice to join in with Gods ongoing eternal existence of being alive in him. Nothing new will occur to produce that action in you that unites you with the Father, that part has been completed. What is left to be done is for you to come and live near to God and have his glory exist thru you from that proximity effect. That was the invitation in salvation itself, and still is as you live your life with Christ.
The Amplification of Justification 5:12 So then, just as sin > Sin had a beginning, just as did man, it was not a part of original creation or of man, but it was an aftereffect of that possibility of creation. Sin is self will enforcing itself, regardless of what Gods will is, it is rebellion against God. There is nothing more to it, and nothing less, its existence in man is either an on switch or off switch. All sin has to do with God, not as its origin, but as its opposing effect. Sin is a repelling effect against God being absolute in anything and everything living thing that has a will to exist, whether Spirit, man or animal being, in that order. All are subject to the effects of sin, in accordance to the authority structure of creation. Satan feel first, then he drew in man, and man pulled in animal. Once the on switch is turned on though, it cannot be turned off, it is a one-way switch, with no off lever to disengage it. entered the world > It all began with sin producing itself then in self rule, which was not part of your original state when you were created, it came by way of disobedience in the Garden of Eden. The garden was a place of endless opportunity for man to exist with God his creator. But as it turned out, it was not to be. Sin became a belief structure of man in that time in the garden, the self rule switch of sin was turned on, a doctrine by which man was ruled, which made it a law he was compelled to obey, without the power to disengage themselves from it. through one man > And that disobedience came thru the first man God created, Adam, when he ate from the tree of knowledge of good and evil and broke Gods first law saying not too. Resulting then in self rule over his destiny, that became sin in effect, taking control of his action. Then once that came into effect, it was permanent, it could not be taken back or made of no effect. It actually became part of our genetic makeup, because it became a part of him that is physically embedded into Adams body chemistry and was passed on thru him, into every man or woman born from then on. It was not passed on by women, but they received it from Adam as the father in life also. So women were not carriers of sin, men were, but women were receptacles of it, making sin in mankind a closed loop of replication in each of us. Because creation requires mans seed to reproduce, women are unable to bare children without sin, whether male or female. and death > And from that man died spiritually and became deceased from Gods intimate fellowship. So as far as God was concerned in the area of personal relationship with him, we are dead and nonexistent to him. As a result of that, mans life is no longer an eternal state of existence, God has put a death sentence on every living creature on earth. The possibility for man to recover from this condition is also nonexistent, all of man will perish in this manner, from this day forward. through sin, > Which is the result of sin, which is a disease of the flesh that corrupts mans nature and is at odds with Gods righteousness. Sin itself is a terminal illness that every man is infected with, there is no man or woman born, who is born from another mans seed, who is not infected with the terminal illness of sin. Every man passes on the seed of sin to everyone that they reproduce, without exception. and so death > So sin caused the death of Adam, not just in the spiritual realm, but also in the physical world too. We are now all born with a death sentence hanging over us, all are subject to it, due to sin being active in our bodies. spread to all people >So this is passed on from Adam to every man and woman born, sin is part of mans genetic seed that he passes on to his offspring. Whether it is a girl or a boy, girls dont pass it on in their genetics, but they receive it from the male seed, just as boys receive it in the process procreation. This then is that which is causing death in all of creation, and there is no medical cure that is able to prevent it. because all sinned- > So being genetically predisposed to a sinful nature, we can then deduce that all of mankind is born with the terminal disease of sin, and therefore in that they cannot avoid Gods judgment of sin. They must exist in this state as sinners without any hope of altering there own course on being guilty of sin, because it is an inborn condition in all of us. 5:13 for before the law > Now for much of mans existence, before the time of Moses, God had not given man a general set of rules or laws to live by. Everyone just lived according to their own set of standards that they themselves arrived at, unassisted by God having given them a global set of laws for everyone to adhere too. was given, > So during that time period, between Adam (who was given one law "do not eat of the tree") and Moses (who gave us the laws of the "ten commandments"), There was no written law, God had not instructed man to obey a set of commands. sin was > So sin still existed in the heart of man, God did just not give a name to identify the particulars of those sins. He did not divide sins into categories and give each a title to identify it. He just labeled sin in a generic sense and left it at that. in the world, > Yet sin was still working in mans heart, killing him as a result it and depriving him of Gods intimate fellowship, so death still took its toll on man. Which proves sin was violating the unwritten laws of nature, and that man was sinful during that time period. Death still ruled supreme over mankind at that point in time, even without a detailed description of it. but > So what we need to observe in relation to this state, is that God had not broken it down for us in descriptive detail, so that there were no official categories of sin. But that is only a technicality, not an absolving of sins guilt itself. This is only a matter of bookkeeping of the facts and how they were not recorded, it does not dismiss the facts, as they were being treated as never having occurred. there is no accounting for sin > Yet seeing as there is no crime, if there was no law given to be broken. There then could be no punishment for specific violations that we now recognize as crimes during that time, if that were the case. The fact is that though God did not keep a detailed record of sin in mans life, it is still a fact that God enforced out of control living, as he did with Sodom and Gomorrah, which was before the law. God was not keeping score of the name and number of mans sin, but he was not dismissing it out of hand either. As I said, there was no booking involved, but there was enforcement none the less. when there is no law. > So how if there was no crime, that is, no law of sin to be broken. Did God deal with sin? Did sin just not exist just because there was no written code, or did it? What is the determining factors behind their moral conduct, absent the written code, that condemns them? How is it, that without law, God is able to enforce, with justice, his actions of judgment against man, and still being just in that action? As I stated, in all the answers to these questions, it is all a matter of
technicalities and having categories of sin, to give sins actual names and titles to call
them. Everyone had a conscience from the time of Adam, that they would violate in sinful
acts within that conscience. So that fact that God did not spell it out for them, did not
mean that they did not know or understand, what they were doing was wrong, they knew, just
as you do, but sinned anyway. 5:14 Yet death reigned from Adam > As this was their condition after Adam, because Adam did have a law to obey, and he broke it, which condemned him and Eve. Now mankind after Adam could not break his law, because they did not have access to the tree, which was the only law they knew, yet they died, which begs the question, Why? If where there in no law, there is no crime, why death, but that is an assumption that sin had to be spelled out to them, and they did not know right from wrong. But even if that were the case, God was not charging them with their own sin as their reason for having to die. They were dying due to Adams sins, so it was from a genetic link was their condemnation coming. We may have a hard time conceiving that as fair, but that was our fate whether we like it or not. You were also born male of female, you may wish you were the other sex, but you are what you are from birth, and it is the same with sin. until Moses > But then Moses came and gave us the Ten Commandments, which told us plainly what sin was, and we all became guilty by this revelation of sin. So then we are now charged with our own sins despite our genetic makeup, we know what they are by name and God is keeping a full record of all your sins. If you are trusting in Christ, they are all forgiven, but if not, you will stand trial for them. even over those > So this death was destroying everyone who was born between Adam and Moses, those who did wrong knew it, but their main guilt was due to Adam and what he did to the genetic legacy of mankind, causing it to be diseased with sin. who did not sin > It did not matter that their sin was not as deliberate a disobedience, just because nobody told them, No! You cant do this or that! God argues against that, and that the nature of man knew its own laws of conscience, of which you are apart and the essences of Gods law to Adam was one of OBEDIENCE. Which man did know that it was wrong to be disobedient, due to Adams example. Thats how they got there in being on the outs with God. Which made them consciously aware of their sins of disobedience and rebellion before God. But even then because their was no law, God did charge them with their own sins, just Adams sin nature, that they possessed. in the same way > The fact that it was not a duplicate of the situation in which Adam violated Gods law, did not excuse the fact that they knew that they were sinning. God is not comparing sin to sin, to decide that only the worst sinners come under judgment. God does not judge sin on a curve scale, sin is sin, and there is no gray areas when God judges sin. that Adam transgressed. > They new they were doing something wrong, and it was at odds with Gods holiness. They just did not care, when they did good, they felt good, when they did bad, they felt bad, they may have not had it spelled out for them, but they still knew what they were doing was wrong, and each will answer for what they did wrong. Moved to end of verse> (who is a type of the coming one)> And Adams role in humanity, was also like that of Christ, who was yet to come. In that as Adam affected man thru his actions of sin, so also, Christ will have an opposite affect on man, thru his righteousness. Where the first one, Adam, destroyed the future of mankind and caused a separation between man and God. The second one, Jesus redeemed the future of mankind, and reconciled the relationship between man and God, bringing us back together again. 5:15 But the gracious gift > So that which came to us thru the work of Christ, that was given freely to mankind, without any good deeds on our part, it that, it was not a reward for doing good. Man never did achieve anything that was in his nature to do, that had any merit in changing Gods opinion of man. Instead, God found an end way around the sin, circumventing its power to condemn. And then offering to give the benefit of it away, to any one who would take him up on his offer to forgive them, if they would believe and trust in him to save them. is not like > What God gave us though, was different then from what Adam had done to humanity, because those who are born, are bound to sins affect from childbirth, whether they want to or not. Where what God did for us was not inborn, it was an external action that had to be ingested and taken in willingly for it to be active in our life. the transgression. > We should not try to compare Adams fall from Gods grace to Christs work on the cross, and its results. Because it is not fit to compare righteousness and evil as though they work together for a common good. At least not outside the obvious affects of both on humanity, Adams effect was mandatory, Christs was conditional in that it had to be agreed too, to become effectual. But in no way are they partners together in this, this is not a bad cop, good cop, effort to get to the bottom of the truth. It is just the stark reality of how this is and how it is affecting mankind. For > To get more clarity on this subject, lets setup the premise on what has and is occurring in humanity. We are basically comparing the inert, yet paralyzing effects of sin being passed along through procreation within the subconscious of mans biology, that is, they are not perceivable to man in that process of procreation. As compared to the efforts of Christ, which are premeditated, predestined and conditional to the response of mankind, as being self aware, as to their encounter with the knowledge of what Christ did and their condition. Where the first is blind and unwillful compliance with sin, and the second is fully seeing, mindfully aware, with actual compliance with the truth from God. The first is ignorance, the second is fully informed consent. if the many died > So we know that many perished and this out of them being born with the genetic makeup of sin of Adam in their life, so from Adam, man received imprisonment. Where in the end, this was a death sentence for our flesh to live in until we physical died from it. Which is the first death that results from sin, after that is the judgement from God, concerning the sins themselves that were committed. through the transgression > Which came about from the breaking of the law which God gave in the Garden. The total progression of what has transpired with man, is the result a single act of disobedience, and the sin of disobedience alone. of the one man, > And that one law was broken by only one man, Adam, which was that sin of disobedience. So it was thru one sin and one man, that all that God is repairing has had it origin in. how much more > But there is, in abundance, a much greater influence then the affects of Adam had on mankind. Not in just quantity, but also quality, where the power of God was made known as having upward momentum. It is the nature of the increasing power of what Jesus did, compared to the weakening and deteriorating frailty of how sin acts to do its diminishing of man. Which these opposites have in their structures, opposing effects and directions in life. did the grace of God > As that which is from the mercy of God is all powerful in its ability to be effectual in our lives. This upward trend of God, is a demonstration of Gods ability to go against the tide of events, where all humanity is moving in one direction, God is moving in the opposite flow of things. Reversing the way that those who following him are going, causing them to turn in midstream and go with him upstream against the flow of sins direction. and the gift > Now the power to do this, is not in our own efforts to alter our course, ours is just to call out for Gods rescue, when he calls out to you and says, this way. When we do that, he comes to our aid and pulls us into his presence and take us with him, out from among this world. It is a favor that he grants to us, as a result of his goodness and power to do so. There is no change of commodities between God and man that cause this to be, it is a pure unachieved present of surprise from God to man. It is like a husband bringing home flowers to his wife, unexpected by her and not because she earned them, but because he chose to demonstrate his affections for her. Though she does often show gratitude in response, she does not attempt to purchase them from him or make compensation for the meaning of them. She knows that it pleased him to do it, and it pleases her to have received them from him. by the grace > Which he then gave us our strength that we could believe in him and be saved from death. So from Christ, man was set free from the bondage of sin and the direction that humanity was moving in. We did not achieve this victory, we merely accepted it as what we wanted as our fate, to follow Christ in our life. of the one man Jesus Christ > This then, came out of the work one man also, Jesus Christ, who was able to deliver mankind from Adams disobedience and convert it into joyful obedience on our part. He sets us up then, establishes us in himself, and provides all the resources to sustain us for eternity with him. Ours is just to occupy with him, that which he has entrusted to us in the spiritual gifts, and make ourselves a part of what he is doing. multiply to the many! > And that then repeated itself in a more powerful way in the lives of those who came under his grace, then did sin, as his righteousness was made known in a more glorious way, throughout all generations. The idea here being that Christ power to cover of sin, is much more powerful than Adams power of sin to come into our lives. In the end, more people will be eternally lost then are saved. So this is in reference to the power of Christ over the sins, not the multitude of people. All are guilty of Adams sin, but few in comparison will receive Christ salvation, due to their rejection of it. But that does not diminish the power of Christ salvation, as being more effective in its power, then that of Adams. Where Adams was passed on without ones conscious efforts to propagate it. Christs effect is actively seeking out to redeem thru the body of believers, making it a conscious effort in the power of its own actions as being premeditate to redeem. Christs action are active and progressive in a conscious effort to seek out converts to eternal life. Adams was passed along in a dormant unconscious state of child birthing to produce its effect in man, somewhat like a Trojan Horse. 5:16 And the gift is not like > The reason being, that their differences are more pronounced then the similarities. Because the only thing they had in common was that each was a single act of their wills in their lives, that had world wide consequences, that is where their similarities end. Adam chose to disobey God, Christ chose to obey God. the one who sinned. > So Adam acted and brought guilt from one type of sin, but where Christ acted and in one type of righteousness, died for the remission all sins. Meaning sins demoralizing affect is not as evident in us as Christ sanctifies us in himself, and also our justification after death, which means there is no judgment charged against you for your sin. For judgment, > As that sin in which you are charged with, would otherwise be held against you if it were not for Christ. Because sin that made you after its form, cast in the mold of its predecessor Adam, was dominating your life and eternal destiny. resulting from > Which was from a source that was outside of your control, but left you in your current state of sin. Meaning you were born into this state of sin, as a result of Adams disobedience. But that you then chose yourself to follow after it, just as did Adam, so you cant just blame Adam, because you have also willfully disobeyed God also. the one transgression, > It did though have its origin out of Adams disobedience, that infused all of mankind to be as he was and led us down this path to destruction. Meaning that Adams sin, is still charged against all of mankind, willful or not. led to condemnation, > God had no choice but to pronounce judgment on all mankind, as their flesh had become an incurable plague, infectious to all who were born. If we continued to exist unabated in our state, all of life would have perished from sins nature in us. but the gracious gift > So as an only possible solution to this, God created an implosion of sin in order to defeat it. So that it would implode in upon itself under its own weight, whereas, to do that, he gave sin an opportunity, to cave in upon himself as the Messiah Christ. Using Jesus as its bate, and in the process, luring in satan and his deception of evil into it, as its final battle to defeat God. While fooling satan into thinking he was rushing to victory, when all along it was an ambush of Gods righteousness. That the enemy never fully realized, until the power of Gods arsenal, crushed him under the weight of his own sin. Not even satan ever saw it coming, because while satan was fighting over the flesh of man, God was fighting over the Spirit of his righteousness. So Christ conquered sin by becoming the sins of man, pulling all evil into himself, including satan, and then consumed it with his righteousness. from the many failures > So Christ took upon himself that multitude of sins that man had created for himself and could not come out from under the weight of judgment of. And devoured them all in a single act of righteousness. He gave evil, what it supposed was an opportunity to defeat him, when in the end, God made sin a self-defeating act by consuming it all in place and in one act. led to justification. > And as he became our intercessor and atonement for our sins, we were then commuted from our death sentence, to eternal life in Christ. The faithful then became prisoners of Christ redeeming work, wards of his protection forever. 5:17 For if, by the transgression > We came under the judgment of sin by a genetic link to disobedience which separated us from God. By violating the trust God put in man to live and obey just one rule in the garden, he sentenced himself by an act of disobedience. of the one man, > This happened to Adam we he ate of the tree in the garden, that God told him he could not eat of, and became sinful by that one act. death reigned > So all of his offspring now carry with them a deadly virus of sin that produces death to everyone that is born of an earthly father. But beyond that, it meant no hope to change that destiny of self-destruction they were on, and also eternal separation from God our creator. Most in grasp of deaths sentence would say, So what! To such an argument. But when death wins out and they finally realize way to late for them to repent and to do anything about it. They will behold all Gods radiant glory, they will finally know their foolish hearts were just that and that it is too late for them then. through the one, > So then all that has and will tear down the corrupt what are ever the efforts of man to do, are the results of just Adams disobeying God one time. how much more > The richness that will come upon those who saved by God from their sins, which when applied will in effect, not only cures the virus of disobedience, but induces a vaccine against other forms of that disease of sin. So that thru his mercy, your offspring will not have to bear the brunt of the sins that you have already defeated. So they are standing on the shoulders of their parents at the outset, knowing Christ in their life from the beginning. As you act as a godly prevention of sin in their lives, rather than that in which infects them and kills them. will those who receive > So all of them the having the benefit of that offsetting power, rise up to glorify God as they have life working in them, rather then only death, that Adam gave them. The multiplying effect of Gods blessing reaching out into eternity alone in just one life saved, is immeasurable and never-ending it is increase, let alone the millions that receive his grace. While the sinful just perish away to nothing in the lake of fire. the abundance of grace > All of his goodness then, coming upon believers in an overpowering flood of Gods mercy. Which is not a reward for doing good, but the love of God being poured out to his children as a demonstration of his care for us. and of the gift of righteousness > Which is able to be upon us from the way God freely has given us his attributes of holiness, that he credited to our account when we were morally broke and destitute from having lived a life of sin. reign in life > So now we are heirs of his righteousness and are given authority and rights to take back your life on earth. Defeat the darkness of satan and rule with Christ in eternity at his side, as his bride. A life grounded and rooted in Gods glory, rather than mans sin nature. A life that bears fruit and abundance for those who experience Gods will, by doing what God is doing also. What you see God doing, imitate it in your own life also. through the one, Jesus Christ! > All of this came to us through the work of Christ Jesus alone, so you can see how much the power of Christ overshadows the results of sin, as it had one affect, death. Where as righteousness produces countless and unimaginable benefits forever, increasing in us the ever presence and glory of God. 5:18 Consequently, just as condemnation > When God found out Adams sin, which caused him to curse the existence of future mankind and legally convicted him of being guilty of sin and sentenced him to death. God was livid at what they did, after all that he gave them, he just didnt want it to be true, but it was. So God began a fix it plan, it wouldnt be easy, and it would take a long time to shake everything out, but he committed himself to seeing it thru till the end. for all people > So the actions of Adam, then spread as a virus of death to all of his offspring, tainting them with the same desires he had, to live in disobedience to God. came through one transgression, > So all of that was the result of Adams one act of disobedience to God and he became the source of the deadly virus of sin, of which now all men (not women) are now a carrier of. so too > In the same way, in that, one mans action caused the sin virus, God concluded that it was also the same and only way that he could nullify its effect on mankind and end the dilemma of his curse on man. through the one righteous act > So by way of anothers mans single action, the cure for that sin virus was made available to those who took it into themselves as a remedy. Because where the first mans action resulted from disobedience, the second mans actions were the result of obedience to holiness, even when it meant his suffering and death. Where the first mans action was self-replicating, the second mans action was produced by an external force, that saved man without his awareness or complicity, until after it was completed for his benefit. It was not self-replicating internally though, for each new birth, there still had to be the second rebirth with Christ, where the external effects of Christ, re-birthed the internal Spirit of God for them. came righteousness > Which then produced holiness and its attributes that began to spread to all those who took the cure into themselves, which caused the sins that were reigning in mankind to go into remission. The hopeless state of mankind who lived in sin, gained hope, when God who created mankind dependent on him from the beginning, displayed his absolute holiness and responsible attribute of his holiness. leading to life > And brought alive their Spirit to a resurrected life in Christ body, who as we yield our bodies that are infected with sin. To his body which is immune to all diseases of sin, sin dies out due to malnutrition, as Christ absorbs more and more of us into him and the power of the flesh is dissolved. So where Adams sin, brought sin to us, so that we then perfected sin in us on our own. Christ in what he did, did not just gain us access to eternal life, he showed us how to live life every single day. Jesus gave us details, Adam left us with ambiguity and confusion. Jesus signed on the dotted line and accepted upon himself, what was not his, our sin. Where Adam hid from the effect of what he did and put it on all that followed after him, to suffer his debt and payment. for all people. > This being now available to all who take his cure of faith in Christ. Man wants to borrow against life to gain what he does not have, and then pay for it later. That is how he approaches everything in life. God paid in advance, and then gave what he purchased away for free, that is how God excels over Adam and his error, by making up for it at his expense, that is the awesome glory of God! 5:19 For just as through > The product that became what and who man is, was induced through a process that was a progressive disease. It was an action that had its base in the thoughts and heart of mans intentions. Once it had its beginning, there was no way for man to stop the despair it brought. It would be like being ejected into outer space without a propulsion system to redirect you, you would simply continue in that direction without end. the disobedience > The actions that brought this about, came by way of this method, which was a state of rebellion to God. Once Adam chose to follow his own guiding in life, instead of Gods, it became mans expulsion into the endless descent of immorality. of the one man > The one involved in starting this method was Adam, who determined mans fall just after the beginning of creation. It was his action that destined mankind to be born with a predisposition to commit sin in ever increasing immoral behavior. many were made sinners, > That left the rest of us in an eternal state of death and judgment thru the viral infection of sin, that made us all disobedient after the sin of Adam, unless something external to man, was done to repair it. So even though Adam made us predisposed to become sinners, it was in the end, each of us acting in sin, that made us sinners. So it was Adam who opened the door and introduced us to sin and corrupted our flesh with the disease of sin. But it was our complicity with the sin, in that, we left the door open in us also, that condemned each of us independently of Adam. so also > Then out of the same method of sin having its origin in one man, the action of another man, brought about an opposite influence upon man. So everything that the second man did, would have an effect of producing obedience, which would draw us closer to God, rather repel us from him as does sin. through the obedience > This came thru a state of obedience being set as a new standard, which loved the law of God and wanted to obey all that it meant to the glory of God, whatever the cost. Obedience removes the excuses from the consideration of compliance with it, it does not debate the reasoning behind it, but trust God to that which is right from Gods perspective, not mans. of one man > And that second man was God in the form of a man, Jesus Christ, the son of God. It was God himself interfering in the course of man, redirecting his eternal state with God, thru Jesus. many will be made righteous. > Jesus thru his action then caused sin to be placed under the authority of the Holy Spirit, instead of man, and demonstrated the Holy attributes of Gods glory. Where the Holy Spirit takes up residence in us and subdues the power of sin in us and sets us free from its bondage and learn the holiness of God. The endless decent into immorality is ended, as God takes us into the direction of himself as the final destination. 5:20 Now the law came in > So after the time of Adam that presided over man, God confused satan by suddenly adding the law to mans situation, yes, this was not just about man, it involved angels and demons too. This seemed to satan as foolishness, as it seemed to him to only further condemn man. Satan could not understand what kind of card God was playing against him in this move, but God was pulling as fast one on satan. Satan was not all knowing, and everything and the only thing he could do is react to God, he could not set the order of things himself, satan had to respond. so that > So satan used the law to defeat the Jews in their own sins, accusing them of lawlessness, but what the devil meant for evil, God meant for good. So in the end, all satan did was continue his attack against Gods chosen people the Jews. Which then led satan to confront the Messiah, whom he also attacked. Where he thought to be killing off the Messiah of the Jews, he actually aided in their very salvation, unknown to him. the transgression may increase, > God also wanted the angelic host to behold the power of his glory, and let all of his righteous attributes be seen. So God, as it were, poured gasoline on the fire, and all of a sudden mans sins burst into flames and sin became known and everyone knew who was with God, and against God. Gods doctrine was now set to checkmate the devil and win the war for his glory, and also redeem man. Because the battle lines had been drawn and the victory would be definable to all. but where sin increased, > Anyone can put out a little fire that has no source to keep it lit, but God inflamed sin, he fanned the fire and added fuel to the mix until the whole earth was being consumed with sin, and then, just at the right time. He imploded sin in upon itself and caused it to defeat itself. grace multiplied all the more, > His mercy stepped back into mans existence, to reestablishes its rule, just as it preexisted in the garden, where rule was by mercy, as opposed to the time from Adam to Christ, where his rule was by decree. Satan thought he had God defeated, and then with the trap set to spring, God drew satan into his own battle plan. Where he destroyed sins death sentence over man and crushed satans power under the weight of his own wickedness. 5:21 so that just as sin > Because when sin had its day in court, the evidence against it was so overwhelming, that the verdict was clear. It did nothing but destroy everything in its path and prevented life with the Father, who rejected its nature of sin. reigned in death, > Now we know that our sinful nature resulted in our death and that it ruled our lives from the time of Adam. Death was the reward for sin, it was earned and it was a just return for wages of sin, sin is a case where mankind bought and paid for it with its own blood. so also grace > So the whole while, where sin was having its way in the hearts of man. God was at work providing an alternate escape route for man to be free of sins grasp on him. The entirety of it though, had nothing to do with mans will to escape, it was a rescue mission, from beginning to end. will reign > But now, we have Gods mercy and it is all powerful and supreme above all creation, it can impose joy to the faithful and inflict depression to sin, so that it is immobilized in the life of those living in Christ. through righteousness > This came by way of Gods Holy attributes, that were made know to mankind, but are ever present in the character of God. They are not new in any way, shape or form, the attributes of God right now, are the way they were at the time of creation, as the way they were from his eternal everlasting state that he is without beginning. to eternal life > This then produced eternal life for those who put their trust in Gods righteousness, and accepted his provision to save us thru it. This not only means that we continue to exist into the eternal future, but that we also come in contact with the original preexistence of who we were meant to be, before we were born sinful. To be in eternity with God, is the conscious awareness of all eternity, not just future eternity, it includes that past, at least so far as God enables that part of creation in us to know it. through Jesus Christ our Lord. > And that came about by the work of righteousness that our Lord Jesus Christ did thru his life that taught us our salvation. His death that made an atonement for our sins, and his resurrection, that brought us eternal life and in all of this, justified us before Gods court of judgment. |
